STRATEGIES (PRS) , MONITORING
The Finance Division (GoP) with
technical and financial support of UNDP Pakistan and Swiss Agency for
Development Cooperation (SDC) has initiated the PRS Monitoring Project
(2008-2012) . The aim of the project is to strengthen institutional capabilities
for results-based monitoring and evaluation of poverty reduction strategies at
Federal and Provincial levels. One of the key outputs of the project has been a
Time Use Survey (TUS) conducted in 2007. The TUS takes exhaustive stock of the
round the clock activities of the everyday life. It has generated a wealth of
date to provide empirical perspective for a wide range of socioeconomics
pursuits and research objectives. In addition to the ongoing analysis, the
Finance Division, UNDP Pakistan , SDC and the World Bank intend to commission ,
researchers to further explore the use of TUS data, especially from the Social
Protection perspective. As part of this effort, researchers are invited to
submit proposals for papers, These papers are meant to contribute (directly or
indirectly) to the review of Pakistan National Social Protection Strategy. The

The local researchers will be
selected on a competitive basis. An evaluation committee will consider the
feasibility, novelty and relevance of each research proposal. The proposals
should be 2 pages long and should include.
Title and a brief description
of the topic that will be investigated and
A description of the
methodology and the source of information to be used (TUS shall be used at the
prime source for quantitative data, whereas other survey data and summary of
published materials, etc may also be referred).
The work is already being
commissioned on following topics:
Public infrastructure , time
allocation to unpaid work and poverty alleviation.
Informal sector work poverty
and social protection
Occupation class, income level
and time poverty among employed individuals.
Child / Youth Labor,
dependency burden and education.
You are encouraged to
investigate other topics of social protect / poverty domain using TUS data.
Interested researchers and academics are invited to submit their proposal
together with their resumes. The resume should especially indicate expertise in
one or more of the proposed topics and preferably include a list or summary or
copies of relevant publications. Last date of submission is October 15, 2009 by
